14 Days Kenya safari and beach holiday
On this unique safari you will start in Kenya’s capital, then wind your way down to the flat, open plains of Amboseli, before entering the vast Tsavo West National Park, stopping in the isolated mountain range of the Taita Hills, and finally enjoying a week of rest and relaxation on Kenya’s beautiful south coast. Truly the best way to take in the south-east of Kenya!
A week in the wild and a week in the water
After resting up in one of Nairobi’s most charming city hotels, your adventure will begin. You will have a full day to explore some of Nairobi’s most rewarding and inspiring sites – the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Langata Giraffe Centre. Both centres are unique, educational and of course fun, and both are utterly dedicated to the care and conservation of these wonderful creatures.
You will then enter the wild! Your first stop will be at Amboseli, where you can see huge herds of elephants wandering across the wide open plains in full visibility. You might even spot one of the large hyena clans, an ostrich running in the distance, or a lone lion stalking across the landscape!
To the east of Amboseli lies the huge Tsavo West National Park the “land of lions and lava”. You can take a trip to the fantastic Mzima Springs – a set of crystal-clear ponds fed by the melt-waters of the glorious Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, one can spot hippos, Nile crocodiles and fish from a submerged viewing chamber. You should also be able to spot zebra, antelope and even elephants quenching their thirst at the water’s edge.
The mountain range of Taita Hills supports some unique flora and fauna. The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, situated at the foot of the hills, constitutes 28,00 acres, and provides refuge for over 50 species of mammal and 300 species of bird. Staying here will provide you with a fantastic base from which to re-entre Tsavo West, visit Tsavo East, or ascend into the hills themselves to pass through the indigenous forests, take in the spectacular views and visit rural markets.
Your exciting safari adventure will end on the coast at Mombasa. From here you can take a day trip into the vibrant city, or you could simply explore the beach, soaking up the sun, taking a swim in the sea and dining at beach restaurants.
A fortnight spent in stunning accommodation
Your first stop will be in the Sarova Panafric – 4-star hotel offering charm and comfort in Kenya’s capital. This fantastic hotel is set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens in a quiet Nairobi suburb, where families, couples and groups alike will all appreciate the peace and quiet whilst still being close to the city centre. Having been inaugurated by Kenya’s first president, H.E. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, in 1965, this hotel is as steeped in history as it is in luxury.
After escaping the hustle and bustle of Nairobi, you will marvel at the wide open space of Amboseli and relish your stay in the heart of the bush. The Amboseli Sopa Lodge offers wonderful views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days, so you’ll feel inspired each morning as you wake. With two bars, a warm and relaxed restaurant, a large pool with shallow kids pool and delightful gardens in the grounds, your stay here will be as relaxing as it is exciting.
The Kilaguni Serena Lodge in Tsavo West is a calm and tranquil establishment with a wild, rugged edge. Whilst all rooms offer modern luxuries such as Wi-Fi connectivity, complimentary mineral water, toiletries, hair dryers and safes, the views will be of the rolling Chyulu Hills or the wildlife-rich watering hole, visited daily by elephants, buffalo and various plains game. After a long day exploring and spotting wildlife, guests can take a dip in the garden swimming pool and enjoy a sumptuous buffet meal in the waterhole-view dining room.
Nestling against the rolling hills of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is the Taita Hills Game Lodge – an oasis of comfort and luxury in the heart of the bush. With lush, verdant surroundings and perfect location for various excursions, your stay here is bound to be both relaxing and fruitful. Guests of all ages can swim, take guided nature walks or even check out the underground tunnel and bunker for an up-close yet safe wildlife viewing experience.
Finishing your fortnight at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort is the perfect end to an adventurous safari trip. Rest and recuperate in the bright and airy, supremely comfortable accommodation, before taking a swim in one of the pools, working out at the gym, indulging in a massage at the spa, trying out a water sport, enjoying a delicious meal or snack at one of three dining choices…or simply lie in the sun and make the most of the weather!
